DUBBING VS. SUBTITLING: PREFERENCES OF THE RUSSIAN AND WESTERN FILM AUDIENCES

The article deals with the issue of audiovisual translation and its types, among which one can mention dubbing, subtitling and voiceover. The subject of the research is the peculiarities of audiovisual translation and traditions and preferences among the Russian and European and American audiences. The authors define the concept “audiovisual translation”, analyze the strengths and weaknesses of each type of audiovisual translation.
