The term “translation strategy” has a number of definitions in translation studies. The researchers define it as a translation method, a translator’s plan, a translation tasks, e.t.c. In the present paper the authors deal with this notion within the cultural functions of translation. The paper considers the issue if it is necessary to preserve cultural values of the source text in the target one or the translator has to adapt the target text to the values of the target culture. The authors also pay attention to the golden mean strategy as a middle ground between foreignizing and domestication.
