ON THE ORIGIN OF ENGLISH IDIOMS WITH BODY PARTS

The article deals with the origin of English idioms with body parts. The article defines the idiom as an expression peculiar to the language that cannot be understood from the individual meanings of its elements and directly translated into other languages. The article emphasizes that idioms are cultural elements, manifestations of traditions, people’s lifestyle. They exist in the language throughout its history.
